Some Brilliant Lesson Ideas From NASA

I was recently emailed these great lesson ideas for those looking at space from none other but the good folk at NASA's education themselves. 

Let your students design their own space mission and then let them share their ideas with others.  This would be mostly suitable for younger students.

Your older science minded students might like to take a look at Creating a Comet Out of Dry Ice by following the video tutorial.   And there is a craft version of creating a comet for the younger students that is available here.

If comets are not your thing then you might like to try and make a moon crater.

All in all this is a great resource for teachers and students of all ages that are looking at space and I would highly recommend taking a look at it.



NY Times Lesson Plan: Nature’s Invaders: Exploring the Effects of Invasive Species on Local Ecosystems

Overview | What are invasive species, and how do they affect ecosystems? In this lesson, students learn how an invasive species and a native species experiencing a population explosion may threaten some of the world’s oldest trees, bristlecone pines in the Western United States. Interactive Periodic Table of the Elements for Students

Learning the periodic table of Elements has always been a bit of a bore for many but I have put together a few websites that might make this a little more enticing to your students.  there is an excellentiPad app that sparked my memory for this post but here are a few web based alternatives to try.

Touchspin Periodic Table - Very Easy to navigate with all the key components.

The Visual Periodic table - Flash based Table

The Dynamic Table - Nice and large great for Inteacitve Whiteboards

Web Elements - Not so Kid friendly but rich in content for older students.

I am sure there are plenty of others out there and I would love to hear about them.
