Computer Activities for Summarizing Text and Report Writing

I have put together an activity for students to help improve their skills in summarizing information using three simple tools in Microsoft Word.  Highlighting Text, Creating a Table and creating a flowchart. Based around a recount of the sinking of the Titanic.

Secondly students are asked to write an information report using the information they have collected in their own words.  Their are a ton of links and guides on how to do all of these tasks if you are not 100 percent confident with Microsoft Word in the Slideshare below. Alternately you can download the PowerPoint here.

I would advise going through this with your students as a whole group and then letting them work individually using the PowerPoint template as a guide.

Great, great lesson plan! Thanks for sharing - I will be trying this with my 3rd/4th graders and maybe a few 5th - 8th graders as well.
