The Ultimate Guide to Teaching Lattice Multiplication

It really amazes me how many teachers and inevitably students with years of experience that have never come across or taught lattice multiplication. Which is a brilliant alternative to traditional multiplication.

"What is Lattice Multiplication" you may ask?

Lattice multiplication offers a very simple alternative to traditional multiplication methods when dealing with whole numbers and decimals of any size.  I find it incredibly useful to use lattice multiplication with reluctant mathematician's who need to take a fresh look at solving both simple and complex equations.

I came across these two excellent slideshows that explain in simple terms for both teachers and students how to do lattice multiplication for whole numbers and decimals.  I would love to creadit the author who put them together but I cannot find any details.

Please share this with your kids and add this as another tool in your maths toolbox.

How to learn the basics of Spelling in 2 minutes

This video is a little bit fast for my liking ( remember to pause after each rule.) but it just might click with a couple of your students who have been making some common spelling mistakes.

3 Great Screen Sharing & Narration Tools for teachers and students

I find it really easy to learn tasks from a good video tutorial whether it be a youtube video on how to renovate a  house or narrated screen tutorial of how to do complex tasks in Photoshop.  I found these three tools on Edutecher another great resource for web 2.0  tools that you and your students can use to better explain how to do something on the web or desktop.

Bounce is a simple, yet powerful, Webtool that allows teachers and students to take a screenshot of any website and then annotate it simply by dragging a box around any portion of the screen. The annotated screenshot can then be shared via Email, Social Networks, and even embedded. This is a great way for teachers to explain how to use a site or ask questions of the viewer about the content on the site. Easy to use and very useful.

Bubble Comment: allows you to record a video message that pops up when a user visits a particular website. It's a great way for you to personally point out web page features or topics to others.

Camtasia Studio  If you ever need to make a recording of something on your computer desktop so you can share it, this free open source program does the trick. Anything you can see on your Windows desktop can be turned into a standard AVI movie file. If you ever need to create a tutorial or demonstrate what a piece of software can do, this will do it for you.

If you know of any other great tools we wwould love to hear about them.

How To Download Any YouTube Song Or Video With Dirpy

I Found this on the excellent GroovyPost.com

Do you have a favorite YouTube song or video that you’d like to download?  Certainly you wouldn’t be alone if you do, and Dirpy might be able to solve that problem for you.  Dirpy is a free online service that will provide a downloadable link for nearly any YouTube video.  If bit-torrents are blocked at your location or just plain sound risky, Dirpy might be a great way to find the music you are looking for.  The beauty about  simplicity is its ease of use being that Dirpy is a web application and requires nothing be installed and works on most internet browsers.

Step 1

Find the YouTube video (or song within the video) that you want to download and then Copy the URL in the address bar.

Note that some videos such as those hosted with Vevo may not be available for download.
