Whilst everyone would agree that an excursion is a great way to get out and learn about things happening outside the classroom it is hugely expensive to books buses and time consuming to make such an event happen - if you are lucky enough to live in an area that has something to offer your students.
Google Connected Classrooms aims to bring the field trip to you by allowing teachers who sign up access to a range of Zoo and Museum staff, and experts from around the world on topics of interest.
They access it through a Google hangout and this allows the students to directly communicate with a presenter via video to ask questions and learn together.
So whilst this may not be as exciting as seeing something first hand it certainly beats board work. Schools that wish to participate can sign up here and see what is on offer.
